Right now, Antonina is on the front line. She is a non- binary person. Antonina and her partner, Sashko, are privates in a mortar unit.
They have been fighting almost since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The play is a dialogue between Antonina and T. - a civilian person she used to be before the war. The
central conflict unfolds between them. T., with an idealistic and often naive view of the world, questions Antonina about various aspects of combat: how to go to the toilet during shelling, what "shell astrology" is, and about the best way to deal with the mice that infest the dugouts. Through this dialogue, it becomes clear that war is far from anything romantic and is instead a mix of mud, blood, sweat, and corpse poison. And the soldiers are ordinary people – drivers, IT specialists, actors, directors – who are now simply doing their duty as soldiers. They are very, very different, but the trenches equalize them all. And these people will remain closer to each other than family for the rest of their lives.
The current war is often compared to World War I. However, Antonina clearly explains what is similar and what is fundamentally different, helping to understand why Ukrainians cannot simply "just stop shooting."
The play is based on an interview with Antonina Romanova, who, before the full-scale invasion, was an actress and a theater director. This play is very personal for the author, as she has known Antonina for over 10 years.
