MODUS IMPERATIVUS

Orignal title: OLHA MATSIUPA, 2022Translator: John Freedman, Natalia Bratus, English

The text was created as part of the “Without Them” almanac, an initiative of the Theatre of Playwrights.
The need for such an almanac arose after a series of readings of war-related texts abroad. In the West, people support us, sympathize with us, and offer help — yet they often fail to understand why we are not so courteous toward those who are killing us.
The text “Modus Imperativus” presents three situations of learning foreign languages, in which refugee women attempt to articulate their rage.
