Олександр Вітер

Director, playwright, scriptwriter, actor. He was born in Kyiv in 1972, graduated from the Kyiv Academy of Circus and Variety Arts (actor of the conversational genre) and Ivan Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theater (director). He staged more than 30 theater plays in Kyiv, Luhansk, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Shtip (Macedonia). The co-founder of the Kyiv Independent theater “MIST” (“МІСТ”, tr. Bridge). Oleksandr Viter worked as a lead director of the radio channel “Kultura” (“Культура”, tr. Culture). He acted in more than 40 roles in plays, movies and television films, TV shows. Oleksandr Viter taught at the theater studios, the “MIST” theater school, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts, the manager of the literature quarters of the Les Kurbas National Center of Theater Arts.

The author of poems, radio, stage, film and television scripts, stage adaptations and plays. His works were published in the “Dnipro” magazine, anthologies “Potoibich pausy” (“On the other side of the pause), “13 suchasnykh ukrainskykh pies” («13 modern Ukrainian plays), “Maidan. Do i pislia” (Maidan. Before and After), “Dramovychok”, “Labyrynt iz Krygy ta Vohniu” (The Labyrynths of Ice and Fire), “Insha Drama” (Another Drama), “Chaso-Prostir” (Time-Space), the almanac “Kurbasivski Chytannia” («Курбасівські читання», tr. Kurbas Readings). The Turkish translation of the play “Stantsia” (“Станція”, tr. Station) was published in Istanbul (Turkey). 

His works were translated and published in France, Poland, Serbia, Armenia, Macedonia, the USA. His plays were performed in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mariupol, Kropyvnytskii, Mykolaiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and other cities in Ukraine, as well as abroad in Belorus, Poland, Georgia, Estonia, Slovakia, Greece, Turkey, Israel. Stage readings in France, Serbia, the USA.       Co-author of the feature film “Sentymentalne poliuvannia za tinniu” («Сентиментальне полювання за тінню», tr. Symbolic Hunting After a Shadow) and a 10 episode film “Zaruchnyky Zemli i Neba” («Заручники землі і неба», tr. The Hostages of Earth and Skies) (Ukraine-Iraq).
Laureate and prizewinner of festivals and contests. He has received the prize of the Biennale of relevant arts, the grand-prix of the “Koronatsia Slova” («Коронація слова», tr. The Coronation of Word). His plays are included in the best works catalogues of the European Theater Convention. They have won in the contest of the theater translations “Evrodrama” (Eurodrama) of the theater center “The House of Europe and the East” (Paris, France).
