July 8–13, PushPush will present the world premiere of a new play by Ukrainian playwright Olha Bulatova. The production continues director Christopher Habeger’s commitment to bringing contemporary Ukrainian stories to American audiences.
The evening will also feature A Text for Theater, a powerful 20-minute play by Ukrainian playwright Antonina Crimea, who is currently serving on the front lines in the Donbas. Set in a foxhole, the piece is narrated by an actor portraying the playwright herself.
Together, the two plays explore a shared question: How do we talk about war, and how do we relate to it from a distance?
Bulatova, who remains in Ukraine, is unable to attend the world premiere of her play Blue Potatoes, Yellow Guns. Reflecting on the work, she said that although she is satisfied with what she has written, she does not see it as a finished story: “I feel like it’s just the beginning.”
