It explores the experience of finding oneself in a bomb shelter sharing a tight space with strangers, pondering the fact that "the earth takes us in" and hoping for its protection. It is filled with the cacophony of voices, streams of thoughts, brief moments of interactions, interrupted by children questioning the brutality of war
This translation retains the author's unorthodox format, including centered text, that mixes identified speech, unidentified speech, descriptions and “stage directions” into a single, flowing narrative.
