A naive playwright seeking material for a documentary play about the Russo-Finnish War of 1939-40, visits several old people in a Russian old folks home for veterans. He ends up learning very little about the Russo-Finnish War, but is confronted by the deprivation and humiliation that Soviet citizens endure.
