Alina Zatsepina, a bright talent from Mykolayiv, Ukraine, emerged as the winner in the inaugural Iryna Steshenko Drama Translation Competition, showcasing her passion and skill in translation. Currently pursuing a Master's degree at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, Alina's win highlights her dedication to the theatre and translation.

In a time marked by challenges, Alina's achievement stands as a testament to her perseverance and creativity. Her translation of Ivan Franko's “Stolen Happiness” received acclaim for its authenticity and fresh take on Ukrainian classical literature for theatre. The jury noted Alina’s translation for its adequate reproduction of the original, extraordinary solutions in translating Ukrainian realities, and stylistic sophistication.

The competition was first launched by Ukrainian Drama Network, spearheaded by the Zhuky Theatre and generously funded by the Stabilisation Fund for Culture and Education of the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and the Goethe-Institut. Organizational efforts were led by the Hryhoriy Kochur Chair of Translation Studies and Contrastive Linguistics at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the Centre for English Academic and Cross-Cultural Communication at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, and Theatre Translation Lab.

The Ukrainian Drama Network operates in collaboration with a diverse array of partners, including the Ukrainian Institute, UkrDramaHub platform, Playwrights' Theatre, NSTDU, and Theatre Platform, fostering a rich tapestry of cultural exchange and creative synergy.
