Eurodram, the European network for drama in translation, is pleased to announce its 2025 selection of translated texts, recommended for production and publication. As a vital platform for fostering international collaboration in theatre, Eurodram promotes the exchange of dramatic works across linguistic and cultural boundaries. This year’s selection highlights remarkable texts that have been translated into Ukrainian, showcasing their literary and theatrical significance.
The 2025 honours for Ukrainian translations feature three outstanding plays. "Чотирнадцять хвилин танцю" ("Quatorze minutes de danse" / "Fourteen Minutes of Dance"), originally written by Sonia Ristic, has been translated from French by Maria Kovalenko. Another highlighted work is "Катинь. Теорія барв" ("Katyń. Teoria barw" / "Katyn. The Theory of Colors"), written by Julia Holewińska and translated from Polish by Larysa Andriievska. Additionally, "Дім" ("Home"), authored by Nicola McCartney, has been brought into Ukrainian through the collaborative efforts of Hanna Kyriienko, Oleksandra Vankevych, Olha Kovaliova, and Tetiana Savchynska. Each of these plays brings unique narratives and perspectives that contribute to the richness of contemporary drama.
In recognition of outstanding work beyond the Ukrainian committee, the German-speaking selection committee has made a special mention of "Пʼять Пісень Полісся" ("Fünf Lieder aus Polesien" / "Five Songs from Polesia") by Luda Tymoshenko. Originally written in Ukrainian, this work has been translated into German by Lydia Nagel, with the publication by Neofelis Verlag, Berlin, in 2024. The special mention underscores the importance of translating and sharing Ukrainian theatre with wider European audiences, strengthening cultural dialogues and appreciation for regional storytelling traditions.
The 2025 Eurodram selection not only celebrates literary excellence but also reinforces the network’s commitment to fostering multilingual exchanges in theatre.
