A new collection of plays by Neda Nejdana has been published in Turkish in Istanbul. The volume brings together three plays focused on women’s experiences of the war in Ukraine: Lost in the Fog, Closed Sky, and A Kitten in Memory of Darkness.
These are powerful works that delicately explore memory, loss, resilience, and hope for Ukraine’s future - as seen through women’s perspectives. As noted in the book’s description, the plays reveal the invisible face of war, the strength of women, and the light the human spirit continues to seek even in darkness.
The project’s author and translator, Senem Jewel, writes: “These translations mark another step in my effort to bring the voice of a renowned Ukrainian playwright into our language - as a continuation of my work over many years.”
This is already the fourth book of Neda Nejdana’s texts published in Turkey by Mitos Boyut. Earlier publications included the plays The Door, The Suicide of Solitude, and Maidan Inferno. The first two have been staged multiple times in both independent and national theatres: The Door was directed by Senem Jewel, including productions at Theatre 123 and the State Theatre in Bursa, while The Suicide of Solitude was staged at the Istanbul State Theatre.
