Alya in Halfdoneland is a whimsical yet thought-provoking fairy-tale play about a girl named Alya who finds herself in the magical land — a place where all the inhabitants are the embodiment of someone's unfinished business. In this peculiar world, no one is complete: some remain unpainted, others unfinished or broken, and some forgotten altogether. The land is ruled by the sinister Halfadvisor, a tyrant without a head who tries on the heads of others and punishes his subjects for even the smallest mistakes. Fear and incompleteness dominate the realm.
As Alya explores this strange land, she searches for a way back home. However, to return, she must help its inhabitants become “whole.” Along her journey, she encounters both comic and tragic characters, such as the Halfdoneman and Halfcinderella, who aid her in her quest to escape the land of fear and imperfection.
Through its colourful characters, each representing different facets of "incompleteness," the play explores the vital theme of taking responsibility for our actions and choices in the human world.
