Viktoriia Boiko

Viktoriia Boiko was born and raised in Kyiv, where her lifelong passion for languages, history, and culture first took root. Her professional interests span game localization, medical translation, and the study of archaic and obsolete vocabulary and practices, reflecting her dedication to bridging the past and present through language.

In 2024, Viktoriia earned her Master’s degree in Translation (English and Ukrainian) from Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. During her free time, she delves into Ukrainian metric books or deciphers old foreign medical manuscripts, combining her love for history and linguistics.

As a translator, Viktoriia’s primary goal is to popularize Ukrainian culture, whether by sharing the stories of national heroes or uncovering the origins of village names, ensuring that Ukraine’s rich heritage resonates on a global stage.

Viktoriia Boiko has emerged as the winner of the Iryna Steshenko Drama Translation Competition, demonstrating her remarkable skill and passion for the art of translation.

In a time of significant challenges, Viktoriia's achievement shines as a testament to her resilience and creativity. Her German translation of Lesia Ukrainka's Blue Rose was widely praised for its authenticity and innovative approach to bringing Ukrainian classical theatre to a broader audience.

The competition was established by the Ukrainian Drama Network, led by the Zhuky Theatre, and generously supported by the Stabilisation Fund for Culture and Education of the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and the Goethe-Institut.
