Orignal title: Морячок, 2022Translator: John Freedman, Natalia Bratus, English

In "The Sailor" by Oksana Grytsenko, a doctor encounters a burly, middle-aged man in a car emitting thick smoke. The doctor offers help, assuming there might be injured people inside. The man reveals he is smoking a cigar, causing the smoke, and invites the doctor to join him. As they converse, it becomes apparent that the man has a wound in his heart and is aware of his impending death. Despite the doctor's insistence that he should seek medical assistance, the man remains defiant, valuing the enjoyment of his last moments. Eventually, the doctor convinces the man to come with her by appealing to his concern for his relatives. They share a conversation about the man's encounter with two Orcs at a checkpoint, which led to his injury. They proceed towards the medical tent, slowly walking together.
